Ways to Get Rid of Wrinkles

By

Aging can cause many different things to happen to the human body, including changes in the skin. As a person ages their skin becomes less elastic and thinner which means it will have a harder time protecting itself from the things that can cause damage such as sunlight resulting in wrinkles. There are, however, several ways a person can get rid of wrinkles and look younger.

Causes

Wrinkles are caused by a wide range of things. According to the May Clinic these causes include age, smoking, facial expressions and sun exposure. MedicineNet.com also suggests other causes that include the type of skin a person has since light skinned people with blue eyes burn easier it increase their chance of sun damage.

Medications

According to the Mayo Clinic there are two different types of medications that can be used to help get rid of wrinkles. The first is a topical retinoid which is a cream that is applied to the skin which could help reduce splotchy pigmentation, fine wrinkles and rough skin. When using a topical retinoid the patient should wear protective clothing to reduce their sun exposure as the medication could burn the skin when exposed to sun light. The other is a non-prescription wrinkle cream that can be bought over the counter. Wrinkle creams that include the following active ingredients may help get rid of wrinkles: alpha hydroxy acids, coenzyme Q10, kinetin, Retinol, antioxidants and copper peptides. Non-prescription wrinkle creams have limited results due to the fact that they contain a lower amount of active ingredients than prescription creams.

Injections

There are two types of injections that are also used to get rid of wrinkles. According to MedicineNet.com these include botox and fillers. Botox is used to paralyze the muscles that cause the patient to frown which creates frown lines along the forehead and around the eyes. Botox must be repeated every few months in order to have ongoing improvement. Fillers are also injected for the purpose of increasing the volume of the skin which will help to flatten out folds and wrinkles. Fillers such as calcium and hyaluronic acid can last up to nine months.

Medical Procedures

According to the Mayo Clinic there are also several medical and cosmetic procedures that will help get rid of wrinkles. The more invasive procedures include face lifts and brow lifts. Other less invasive procedures include chemical peels, dermabrasion, microdermabrasion, laser treatments along with radiofrequencyand light source treatments.

Prevention

The best way to get rid of wrinkles is not to get them at all. According to the Mayo Clinic there are several ways a person can help prevent wrinkles. These ways include not smoking, using moisturizers to avoid dry skin which can result in wrinkles, wearing sunscreen daily along with protective clothing to help protect the skin from UV rays.
